Body Connect was born in 2021 as a platform for online Pilates-based exercise classes led by Physiotherapist, Sally Buchanan.
The goal was to enable ongoing access to Pilates classes, despite obstacles of life such as COVID-19, geographical distance, or being at home with small children. And what started as a simple online platform, soon evolved into a lovely small business offering Physiotherapy services as well as matwork and equipment Pilates-based exercise classes.
Sally enjoys treating injuries and guiding people back to pre-injury health, and as such is a big advocate for exercise as a therapeutic and rehabilitative tool.
When joining our one-to-one or small group classes, an initial assessment appointment is required so that the exercises are set to meet the needs of your unique body and functional demands.
Our Pilates-based exercise classes are delivered by an accredited Physiotherapist and are set to meet the requirements of the participants. These classes have been developed from a clinical framework, meaning the exercises are delivered from a therapeutic constitution, rather than fitness-only principles.
Body Connect’s classes are designed to connect your mind to your movement, focusing on how to optimise the quality of your body’s motor control during activity.
We accept self-referrals, GP, DVA and EPC referrals for Physiotherapy services.
Sally grew up in a small country town in western NSW and loved it. The laid back nature and community spirit of the country are well ingrained in her. Sally played a number of sports and has had an interest in human movement and injury management since her teen years. Sally is now married and has three young boys and feels blessed to live in the beautiful Nambucca Valley.
Sally is a Physiotherapist, she graduated with a Masters of Physiotherapy degree from the University of Canberra in 2013. Sally has primarily worked in private practice treating predominantly musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and sports-related conditions. In recent years Sally has developed an interest in women's health and finds the benefits of Pilates exercises really effective in helping many women’s (and men's!) health issues such as pelvic and lower back pain, pre and post natal care, rehabilitation post-surgery, and osteoporosis. Sally has taught Pilates since 2014, and has seen how regular Pilates exercise can rectify and fortify the human body when implemented appropriately. She has Pilates instructor training from the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) and with Dance Medicine Australia (DMA).
Sally’s undergraduate degree was in Exercise Science and Rehabilitation, which provided a solid foundation in anatomy and physiology, human movement, injury and rehabilitation, and in strength and conditioning. All topics she still draws on with her work and as a volunteer sports trainer with the local Rugby League Club.
